OpenID

We now support logging in and registering with OpenID.

For those who do not already know about OpenID's, an OpenID is "A single digital identity" that can be used accross the internet. This means that you can login to any website that supports OpenID with just one ID. You don't have to remember which username and what password goes where. It even make registration for new websites easier.

What you need to start using OpenID's here and everywhere else is an OpenID. There is a good chance that you already have an OpenID, and just didn't know it.

You already have one if you have an account at: Yahoo, LiveJournal, Technorati, Wikitravel, Vox, and AOL/AIM (Experimental).

If you do not have one or would like a different one, a popular and feature rich provider is Verisign PIP, which also provides a useful Firefox extension to make the usage easier and more secure.

a little lost

So you said that OpenID would make it so that you wouldn't have to confirm your registration in your email?

I don't really understand how it will be convenient.

Are there a lot of sites that do that?

How do you know?  Because it says "login with openID"?

I'm not completely understanding the whole thing I guess=/

Yup, it could eventually. It certainly makes the process a lot easier and more secure.

It's really only more convenient if you like to use more than one website, which nearly every internet user will. It makes it more convenient because you'll always have the same "username" on all websites in the form of your OpenID url. You'll never have to remember which password goes where because you only log into the site that provides your OpenID.

Actually there are quite a few supporters already. They are popping up quickly and they're all so new I am not aware of all of them yet. A few examples websites taht accept OpenID's would be Sourceforge.net, Livejournal, Jabber.org. That list may not be large, but it is a very new technology and is rapidly growing. Many of them are drupal powered sites.

The easiest way to know if the website supports OpenIDs is to look for the standard OpenID icon ().
